About our Anesthesia

To keep things run smoothly during your surgery and maintain the highest standards of safety Dr. Cruise performs his surgeries at one place: Newport Beach Center for Surgery, which is Medicare Accredited. He primarily works with three anesthesiologists: Dr. Choan, Dr. Reines and Dr. Dror.

CEDRIC CHOAN, MD Board Certified Anesthesiologist

Dr. Cedric Choan is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiologists. He has been providing outpatient anesthesia to his patients at various ambulatory surgery centers throughout Orange county for the past 10 years.

Dr. Choan was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and attended the University of Hawaii where he earned the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He completed his medical education at the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana where he was bestowed the degree of Doctor of Medicine. His training consists of 2 years of general surgery residency followed by 3 years of anesthesia residency at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California.

In 2000, after practicing at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center and Saddleback Memorial Medical Center for 6 years, Dr. Choan changed gears and decided to concentrate solely on outpatients and refined his anesthetic technique to greatly benefit his patients who underwent same day surgery. He has developed his TIVA (total intravenous anesthesia) technique so that his patients would have a smooth and pleasant anesthetic experience. Nausea, vomiting and the dazed feeling many associate with general anesthesia are virtually eliminated. In fact, the majority are talking and coherent within 10-15 minutes after surgery.

Dr. Choan is happily married to Michelle and they have 5 children. He enjoys working in his garden and is a second degree black belt in Kempo.

ALAN DROR, M.D. Board Certified Anesthesiologist

Dr. Alan Dror is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and is a Diplomate of The American Academy of Pain Management. He has over 20 years of experience, with the majority of his work over the past 7 years focused on cosmetic plastic surgery.

Dr. Dror was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He graduated with honors in biochemistry at UCLA and received his medical degree from University of California Davis. Dr. Dror completed his internship in internal medicine at UCLA, residency in anesthesia at Yale, and he completed his fellowship at University of Southern California’s Medical Center in Obstetric Anesthesiology. He’s published numerous articles and was recognized on the front page of Anesthesiology News for his research on the use of spinal morphine on pregnant women during cesarean sections.

For 15 years, Dr. Dror has dedicated his subspecialty to OB anesthesia. However, over the last 10 years, he has honed his skills administering general anesthesia specifically for patients undergoing cosmetic plastic surgery in an outpatient setting.

“TIVA (Total IV anesthesia) is cost effective and minimally invasive for the patient. By using a combination of drugs administered through an IV, and in combination with the use of a local anesthetic, patients are comfortable, numb, and completely sedated. When patients wake from a surgery using this method, they wake up quickly; feel rested, without experiencing nausea or vomiting. Compared to general anesthesia which involves the use of inhalation gasses, this technique is more difficult to perform. However, it does not result in long wake up times or the usual groggy and nauseous feeling patients typically experience when waking from surgery.”

Dr. Dror is married to Gloria. He and his wife live in Orange County, CA. They have 2 children --- 9 year old Daniella and 13 year old Jared. Both children are straight A students. Dr Dror plays hockey for Irvine’s advanced beginner league and has been recently named their 1st place goalie.
